Your post is on point Lee, and lacking in confidence begets the same. The time you cherish was foreshadowed by many victories which carried us forward and, for whatever reason, our leaders can no longer find a victory if it slapped them in the face. And, unironically, they seem unilaterally determined to do just the opposite.
It is we Americans our “leaders” must defeat. As they would remain an oligarchy, indeed a tyrannical Empire from Europe to Japan and we are the suddenly shaky base of power - their strategic picture and indeed policies are correct. They must utterly subjugate Americans and America despite having no army they can use against us. a justly resentful police and being themselves cowardly they must engage in deceit, subversion, undermining and corruption.
At these skills they excel.
Of course they ruin us, we’re enemies and they rightly fear us.
They are also very effeminate.
What does one expect?
That they’d challenge us to duels? 😂

The slap is in our face, which is why every victory since 1945 has been turned into defeat at table.

The consensus you refer to would probably be called The New Deal or frankly The Liberal Consensus. That’s what Victory- over the rest of America- looked like. It’s over. Nor was such consensus normal, nor natural, nor did it lack enforcement and censorship (The Fairness Act for example).
It also needed an enemy and the enemy went away. It’s not healthy without an enemy.
That consensus shattered in the 1960s. It just had enough left to survive the USSRs demise.
As for the paradise you describe, it seems in paradise man rots, beginning with his soul and mind.
Certainly we decayed. This is a trough following a peak, do not despair.
Also you should consider we’re a gerontocracy from top to bottom-the voters are too old and so is our leadership and management at every level.
We’re also a matriarchy - well an attempted and failed matriarchy, I am unaware of successful ones.
What should we do?
Recognize we’re a Federation since the Iroquois, that we don’t need nor can we succeed at Empire.
